Do you get half of your bet back if roulette hits 0 or 00?

Last updated: 05.04.2024 by Andrew Shepard

It depends on the specific roulette rules in the casino you are playing in. In some casinos, there is a rule called "surrender" or "en prison" that can apply to even money bets (such as red/black, odd/even, or high/low) if the ball lands on 0 or 00.

Under the "surrender" rule, if you place an even money bet and the ball lands on 0 or 00, you will only lose half of your bet. This means that if you bet $10 on red and the ball lands on 0 or 00, you would lose $5 and get to keep the other $5.

Under the "en prison" rule, your even money bet will be "imprisoned" or "held captive" until the next spin. If your bet wins on the next spin, you get your original bet back. If it loses, you lose your entire bet.

However, it's important to note that not all casinos offer these rules, and even when they do, they may not apply to all types of bets. In American roulette, for example, the 0 and 00 pockets create a higher house edge, so many casinos do not offer the "surrender" or "en prison" rules.
